Touch for Health is a form of Kinesiology. It was developed in the 1970s by Dr. John Thie. The theories and techniques are based on Applied Kinesiology which was developed by Dr. George Goodheart. Dr. Goodheart developed his system for medical doctors. Dr. Thie believed that many of the techniques were simple enough for anyone to learn and use to improve their own health and wellbeing. He saw a need for people to be able to take control of their own health and to have tools to help their own families. He created Touch for Health in order to make this simple form of healthcare accessible to everyone.
In a Touch for Health balance, specific muscles on the body are used to provide feedback. Gentle pressure is applied against a muscle’s range of motion to determine if the muscle will lock (hold in place) or unlock (move when tested). These responses give the tester information on the body’s energy system. Through a series of simple techniques, such as rubbing or holding a point on the body, the energy system can then be rebalanced to aid the body’s own natural healing process. All manner of issues can be helped with Touch for Health techniques from muscle pain or weakness, to emotional stress and distress.
